Video 177. Online SolidWorks
– 1 – Welcome to Your Online SolidWorks Class – Lesson 1 – The Two Minute
Part.
This is your first lesson
and I call it your “2 Minute Part”, in two minutes you will have created
a 4 inch square - quarter inch thick - brass plate part model as part of
the design of your hinge plate in your Sarrus Mechanism assembly.
In this lesson I am only
going to cover a few things that you’ll need to know to build this part,
but only briefly, and we won’t be covering anything in a lot of detail.
We’ll save the detail for later videos.
So, to get started, you’ll
need to open SolidWorks and when you do, you won’t see much. To start
we are going to choose the File selection on the pull down menu and then
select Part. Part is one of only three files that you can create
with SolidWorks.

Class - Lesson 2 - Introduction to the User Interface - The Menu Bar.
To understand SolidWorks
we should first take a tour of the User interface in this video lesson
we will look at that top item called the Menu Bar. The Menu Bar contains
items like New file, Open file and Save file buttons, file Properties,
file Options, file Rebuild Button (traffic light) file name, Search Bar,
Split Screen and more.

Class – Lesson 3 – Introduction to the User Interface – The Manager Bar.
To understand SolidWorks
we should first take a tour of the User interface and in this video lesson
we will look at that area on the left side of the User interface called
the Manager Bar. This manager bar includes the all familiar Feature
Manger, Properties Manager, Configuration Manger, Dimension Expert Manager
and the Display Manager.

SolidWorks Class – Lesson 4 – Introduction to the User Interface – Short
Tour of the Feature Manager.
To understand SolidWorks
we should first take a tour of the User interface and in this video lesson
we will look at that area on the left side of the User interface called
the Manager Bar and the tab on the left sided named The Feature Manager.
The Feature Manager tour will be populated with our Features and Sketches
for our Hinge Plate plus all of the embedded function that help us model.
From the top to the bottom we will briefly cover the Search function, History
folder, Sensor folder, Annotation folder, Material selection, the three
primary planes including the Front, Top and Right planes resulting in the
Origin. We also look at all of the features and sketches that drive
our part – the Hinge Plate.

Class - Lesson 5 - Modeling Basics, Sketching, Constraints and Extrude
Boss/Base.
Let’s get started on modeling
by looking at the some basic functions starting with Sketching, Constraints
and the Extrude Boss/Base tool. Choose plane to sketch, sketch a Center
Rectangle, look at constraints and add Smart dimensions. There will also
be a discussion on different sketch entities including model lines, construction
lines and what line colors mean. Sketch Relations will also define our
model and we will demonstrate the horizontal, vertical, coincident and
equal sketch relations. There will also be a discussion on overdefined
and underdefined sketches and how they appear in our Feature Manger. We
will also look at various options regarding the Extruded Boss/Base feature.

Class - Lesson 6 - Adding to and Modifying your Model.
By taking our existing model
we are going make some modifications including adding a Sketch Fillet,
changing the thickness, adding a hole, a Feature Fillet and the feature
Shell command. And with options. We’ll also cover some items like renaming
your features and moving some features around to see the results.
