• Tips, Tricks and Techniques
• Why do imports fail and how can I get a better export?
• How can I heal and repair imported geometry (2D and 3D)?
• Converting 2D to 3D.
• Case study: Plastic injection molds

What makes Michael a CAD superstar, you might ask? He was the 3rd place champion in SolidWorks World’s 2013 Model Mania Contest competing against over 200 other participants! Not only did he receive recognition in front of 4500 people at the conference but he also received some great prizes including a Google Nexus 7 Tablet and an NVIDIA Quadro 2000 graphics card! Last year he came in real close but it was this year that he made his mark. Great job Michael!

We will also be giving a short follow-up to the fun and excitement from SolidWorks World 2013 including some videos and a slide show. Some highlights that I think that were really interesting include a video on the new Mcor Iris 3D printer (that uses printer paper as a medium), Festo’s SmartBird, plus other fun things.

Our annual Topics Survey will be passed out listing subjects that you may like to see presentations on. With your votes we can line up speakers for the coming year. I found some presenters from SolidWorks World that may be willing to speak on subjects such as developing Smart Components and when to choose Solid or Surfacing Modeling techniques.

As promised, as a follow-up from my email a few weeks ago, I explored Autodesk’s 123D scanning software and the Meshmixer modeling program and have posted a review on my limited success and potential of these programs.
