Video 177. 1- Welcome to SolidWorks - Your Online SolidWorks Class - Lesson 1 – The Two Minute Part. This is your first lesson and I call it your “2 Minute Part”, in two minutes you will have created a 4 inch square - quarter inch thick - brass plate part model as part of the design of your hinge plate in your Sarrus Mechanism assembly. To understand SolidWorks we should first take a tour of the User interface in this video lesson we will look at that top item called the Menu Bar. The Menu Bar contains items like New file, Open file and Save file buttons, file Properties, fie Options, file Rebuild Button (traffic light) file name, Search Bar, Split Screen and more. Back to the top - Video 179. Online SolidWorks - 3 - Introduction to the User Interface - The Manager Bar. To understand SolidWorks we should first take a tour of the User interface and in this video lesson we will look at that area on the left side of the User interface called the Manager Bar. This manager bar includes the all familiar Feature Manger, Properties Manager, Configuration Manger, Dimension Expert Manager and the Display Manager. Back to the top - Video 180. Online SolidWorks - 4 - Introduction to the User Interface - Short Tour of the Feature Manager. To understand SolidWorks we should first take a tour of the User interface and in this video lesson we will look at that area on the left side of the User interface called the Manager Bar and the tab on the left sided named The Feature Manager. The Feature Manager tour will be populated with our Features and Sketches for our Hinge Plate plus all of the embedded function that help us model. From the top to the bottom we will briefly cover the Search function, History folder, Sensor folder, Annotation folder, Material selection, the three primary planes including the Front, Top and Right planes resulting in the Origin. We also look at all of the features and sketches that drive our part – the Hinge Plate. Back to the top - Video 181. Online SolidWorks - 5 - Modeling Basics, Sketching, Constraints and Extrude Boss/Base. Let’s get started on modeling by looking at the some basic functions starting with Sketching, Constraints and the Extrude Boss/Base tool. Choose plane to sketch, sketch a Center Rectangle, look at constraints and add Smart dimensions. There will also be a discussion on different sketch entities including model lines, construction lines and what line colors mean. Sketch Relations will also define our model and we will demonstrate the horizontal, vertical, coincident and equal sketch relations. There will also be a discussion on overdefined and underdefined sketches and how they appear in our Feature Manger. We will also look at various options regarding the Extruded Boss/Base feature. Back to the top - Video 182. Online SolidWorks - 6 - Online SolidWorks – Adding to and Modifying your Model. By taking our existing model we are going make some modifications including adding a Sketch Fillet, changing the thickness, adding a hole, a Feature Fillet and the feature Shell command. And with options. We’ll also cover some items like renaming your features and moving some features around to see the results. Back to the top - Video 183. Online SolidWorks – 7 - The Draft Option (a simple taper) with the Extruded Boss/Base Feature. Modeling Basics, The Draft Option (a simple taper) with the Extruded Boss/Base Feature. We will also look at both the Mid-Plane or Blind options and the result of those choices. Back to the top - Video 184. Online SolidWorks - 8 - Applying Symmetric Features with Mirror tools using Sketches & Features. In this video we will discuss how to apply symmetric features to our model by first exploring some sketch options then applying the Mirror Feature to our part. Back to the top - Video 236. Online SolidWorks Extras - 60 - How to Model the Ko-Ku Toy Deluxe Bottom Cone - Week 1 Part. This video describes how to model the base of this childs toy along with a wood pattern. using the extrude boss/base and draft feature, with a feature fillet and hole. Back to the top - Video 237. Online SolidWorks Extras - 61 - How to Model the Junction Box - Week 1 Part. This video describes how to model a junction box from a drawing using feature fillets the shell feature and square holes. Back to the top - Video 238. Online SolidWorks Extras - 62 - How to Model the Outlet Cover - Week 1 Part This video describes how to model in SolidWorks a common US outlet cover using sketch symmetry and the three primary planes, holes, feature chamfer, shell feature, sketch mirror, feature mirror and others. Back to the top - Video 239. Online SolidWorks Extras - 63 - How to Model the Sensor Cover Window - Week 1 Part This video describes how to model in SolidWorks a sensor cover with a window port using sketch symmetry, extrude boss/base and holes utilizing the 3 primary planes, feature fillet, shell feature. Back to the top - Video 240. Online SolidWorks Extras - 64 - How to Model the Planting Pot - Week 1 Part (WDE) This video describes how to model in SolidWorks a seed plastic planting pot starting with the top plane, extrude boss/base, draft feature, shell, bottom holes, symmetry, extrude boss/base, and holes utilizing the 3 primary planes, feature fillet, utilizing the 3 primary planes, feature fillet, shell feature. Back to the top - - - Video 248. SolidWorks Q&A - 1 - Common Modeling Issues - Orientation – Correct Model but Wrong Mass Properties (on the Switch Plate) In this video we will discuss some common issues regarding orientation by looking at a student's part file that they were having difficulty with. These were resulting in a correct model but with incorrect Mass Properties. Back to the top - - See our other class websites for additional CAD design content and training.
